Switching From Tradify for Gas and Electrical Certificates: What to Check First (2026)
Tradify’s Pro and Plus plans do include UK gas and electrical certificate templates, so the real question for a switcher is not whether it can, but which tier, which fields and whose job record.
Updated 6 October 2026
TLDR: Tradify’s Pro and Plus plans do include UK gas and electrical certificate templates, so a multi-trade business cannot rule it out on “it can’t do certificates at all.” The real questions are which tier that feature sits behind, what each certificate actually captures, and whether it shares one job record with your quotes and invoices, or lives as a separate step you still have to match up by hand.
A gas-and-electrical business checking out Tradify alternatives usually starts from one assumption: Tradify handles quoting and job scheduling well, but someone else has to issue the actual certificate. That assumption does not hold up on a fresh look at Tradify’s own UK pages. The real switching decision sits one level deeper than “does it have certificates.”
What follows is a straight check of what Tradify’s certificate feature covers, what it costs to reach, and the specific things worth checking in any candidate tool before treating certificate capability as the reason to move.

Does Tradify actually do gas and electrical certificates?
Yes, on its UK site. Tradify’s global features pages, the ones most comparison content links to, carry no certificate content at all, which is likely where the “Tradify can’t do certificates” assumption comes from. But Tradify also runs a UK-specific electrical safety certificates page naming the Electrical Installation Certificate, the Electrical Installation Condition Report, the Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate, PAT reports, danger notices, and several fire-alarm, emergency-lighting and solar PV certificates, and a separate gas and oil safety certificates page naming 15 templates, including the Landlord or Homeowner Gas Safety Record, service maintenance records, commissioning and testing records, and the oil CD-series forms.
The electrical page states plainly that the feature “is included in your Tradify Pro or Plus subscription.” Tradify’s UK pricing page lists Lite at £34, Pro at £37 and Plus at £44 a user a month, with Forms & Certificates shown against Pro and above, not the entry-level Lite plan. So the honest starting point for a gas-and-electrical switcher is not “find a tool that has certificates.” It is “Tradify already has them, on a specific tier, so check whether that tier’s version of the feature actually fits how you work.”

Is having the feature the same as being ready for your compliance scheme?
A certificate template and a compliant certificate are not automatically the same thing. On the specific Tradify page we checked today, there is no visible field for a Gas Safe registration number or engineer ID, and no mention of how the form carries that detail through. That is not evidence the field cannot exist somewhere in the live app; it is a gap between what the marketing page shows and what a gas-and-electrical business needs to confirm before it relies on the form for a real job.
What does a compliant gas safety record need to show?
Under Regulation 36 of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, a landlord’s gas safety record has to show the check date, the property address, the landlord’s details, each appliance checked, any defects found, and the engineer’s name, signature and registration number, and the record has to be kept for 2 years and a copy given to the tenant. A gas engineer only earns the right to put that registration number on a form after completing the Core Domestic Gas Safety qualification and registering with Gas Safe Register. A template that lets anyone type any name into a signature field is not the same as a form built around who is actually allowed to sign it.
What does a compliant EICR need to show?
Under Regulation 3 of the Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020, a landlord must have the installation inspected and tested at intervals of no more than 5 years, supply the report to the tenant within 28 days of the test, and get any flagged remedial work done within 28 days. A certificate app earns its place in that workflow by tracking the renewal date and the remedial-work clock, not only by producing a PDF on the day of the job.
What should you check before you switch for certificates?
Run this against any current tool and any candidate, including Tradify on the tier you would actually pay for, before deciding certificates are the real blocker:
- The exact formal certificate types you issue. Confirm the Electrical Installation Certificate, the EICR, and the Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate by name, not a generic “electrical forms” label, and the same for your specific gas, oil or PAT paperwork.
- Whether the field structure matches your registration. Look for an engineer name, signature and registration-number field that is actually part of the form, not a free-text box you have to remember to fill in correctly every time.
- Renewal tracking, not just issuance. A 12-month gas check and a 5-year electrical inspection both carry a hard renewal date. Check whether the tool tracks that date and prompts a booking, or whether that sits in a separate diary or spreadsheet.
- An export format your landlord, letting agent or client can actually use. A signed PDF that reads cleanly outside the app matters more than an in-app viewer only your own team can open.
- Which tier unlocks the feature, and what that costs for your team size. A feature that exists on paper but sits behind an upgrade you were not planning to pay for is a real cost to weigh, not a free yes.
What does reaching certificate capability actually cost?

Here is one worked example, with the assumptions stated so you can run your own numbers. A two-person gas-and-electrical business on Tradify Lite, at £34 a user a month, has no Forms & Certificates feature at that tier. Moving both users to Pro, at £37 a user a month, to unlock it costs £74 a month, or £888 a year, checked against Tradify’s live UK pricing on 6 October 2026, before VAT. The same two people on Checker’s LITE plan, at £10.99 a user a month, where digital records and reports, certificates included, are part of the cheapest tier rather than an upgrade, cost £21.98 a month, or £263.76 a year, before VAT. This is a two-user, entry-tier comparison only. It does not include VAT, sub-users, or any feature either platform bundles in at a higher tier, and the right comparison for your own business depends on your actual team size and which tier you would need for other reasons anyway.
Where does Checker fit into this?
We build Checker around one job record that carries the quote, the certificate and the invoice together, which is the mechanism a gas-and-electrical switcher is usually really asking about. Our gas reports cover the Landlord Gas Safety Record, boiler service records, installation and commissioning records, tightness testing and purging records, and RAMS, built to Gas Safe layouts; we do not submit anything to the Gas Safe Register ourselves, you stay in control of where the report goes. Our electrical certificates cover the Electrical Installation Certificate, the EICR, the Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate, PAT reports, emergency lighting and smoke alarm records, built to BS 7671 layouts. Both are included from the LITE plan at £10.99 a month, not gated behind a higher tier, and our Xero integration, which syncs invoices and payments both ways, is available on PRO and PRO+.
That is a genuine fit for the exact switching risk a gas-and-electrical business is weighing. It is not the only way to answer it. The table sets out where Checker sits against named alternatives on the same question, fairly, including where it is not the strongest fit.

Check your own setup before deciding
Run through these before treating certificates as the reason to switch:
- Does your current tool, including Tradify on the tier you would actually pay for, name your exact certificate types, or only a generic “forms” label?
- Does the certificate carry your registration number as part of the form, or is that something you add separately every time?
- Does anything track your 12-month gas renewal and your 5-year electrical renewal dates, or does that sit in a separate diary?
- What tier do you actually need to pay for to get certificates, and what does that cost for your real team size?
If the answers show a real gap, gated access, or paperwork that still needs matching up by hand, that is the evidence to act on. If your current tool already clears all four on the tier you are already paying for, the switch may not be about certificates at all.
Frequently asked questions
Does Tradify really not do gas and electrical certificates?
It does, on its UK-specific pages, through the Pro and Plus plans. The confusion usually comes from Tradify’s main global features pages, which carry no certificate content. Check the UK-specific pages and the plan tier directly rather than assuming either way.
What is the real difference between Tradify’s certificate feature and Checker’s?
Both name formal UK certificate types. The practical differences are which plan tier you need to reach the feature, and whether the certificate sits against the same job record as your quote and invoice or as a separate step.
Can a reminder or renewal prompt replace the compliance work itself?
No. A reminder can prompt a booking or flag that a renewal date is close. It cannot perform the inspection, issue the certificate, or make a customer compliant on its own.
Will my existing certificate history transfer if I switch platforms?
That depends on the platform, and it is a separate check from certificate capability itself. Ask what your current tool can export and what a candidate tool can import before you commit to a move.
Is a cheaper entry tier with certificates included always the better choice?
Not automatically. Weigh the certificate feature against the other tools you need, such as scheduling, job costing or accountancy sync, and compare total cost for your real team size rather than the certificate feature alone.
